Of late, following the newly elected Union Government assurances that led the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to issue its Notification to inform the Civil Services aspiring candidates for the Year 2014 and onwards in respect of non-inclusion of the marks obtained by the candidates for the English Passages as the same shall not be counted for preparing Merit List from 2014 onward.

Even the candidates are still continuing their protests by underlining the need of striking out completely the English Comprehension / Passage from the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

UPSC CSP Expected Cut Off  Analysis 2014

General Studies Paper II forming part of the Indian Administrative Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2013 consisted of Three Passages for which these Comprehensions contained Eight (08) Descriptive Type Multiple Choice Questions with the option of A, B, C & D Response, out of which ONE (01) correct Answer was to be submitted by the candidates.

The General Studies Paper II & General Studies Paper II X Series comprising 80 Items carried a total of 200 Marks with each Question having been awarded equal marks.

However, there was Penalty for Wrong Answers. The deadlock persists between the Civil Services aspirants and the Union Government on behalf of the Union Public Service Commission for completely crossing out the English Passage from the General Studies Paper II & General Studies Paper II X Series.
