UPSC GEOL Online Application Form 2014
The Union Public Service Commission has released Notification dated February 15, 2014 to invite Online Applications to the post of Geologists and Hydrogeologists from the talented candidates from the country. The Date of Notification, i.e., 15.02.2014 implies the candidates’ beginning to submit respective Application and the Last Date of Receipt of Application by UPSC is March 17, 2014.
There are four categories of posts for which the candidates may take their exams, as follows
Geologists (Group ‘A’)
Assistant Geologists Grade-I (Group ‘B’)
Junior Hydro-geologists Scientist B (Group ‘A’)
Assistant Hydro-geologists (Group ‘B’)
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) would conduct Competitive Examination to recruit the candidates to the posts of Geologists Exam for recruitment to the posts of two categories; viz., Category I (Posts in Geological Survey of India) and Category II (Posts in Central Ground Water Board).
Age Limit: 21-32 years on 1st January, 2014 (of the year of Exam)
Educational Qualification: The applicants appearing for Geologists’s Exam need to have the following
(i) Master’s degree in Geology/Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university; or
(ii) Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; or
(iii) Master’s degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university (for posts in GSI); or
(iv) Master’s degree in Hydrogeology from a recgonized university (for posts in CGWB)
Candidates appearing in the requisite qualification can also apply for the examination but are required to submit proof of passing along with detailed application form.

The Candidates applying, first, need to click UPSC’s Official Website www.upsconline.nic.in
then the candidates is required to complete the online Application Form containing two stages, viz., Part I and Part II as per the instructions available in the above mentioned site.
The candidates then is required to pay a Fee of Rs 200/- (excepting SC/ST/PH/Female candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) either by depositing the money in cash in the State Bank of India or any of the allied SBI branches or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore. The candidates can also make payment by using any Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.
Before start filling up of online application, the candidates must have individual photograph and signature duly scanned in the JPG format.
The applicants, while filling their Application Forms, must ensure that they are providing their valid and active E-Mail IDs as the Commission may use electric mode of communication while containing them different stages of examination process.
Geologists Examination 2014, shall comprise the following pattern:
Part I: Written Examination
Candidates competing for both categories have to appear in the following papers
(i) General English – 100 Marks – 3 hrs
(ii) Geology Paper-I – 200 Marks – 3 hrs
(iii) Geology Paper-II – 200 Marks – 3 hrs
(iv) Geology Paper-III – 200 Marks – 3 hrs
(v) Hydro-geology – 200 Marks – 3 hrs
For Category I candidates have to appear in Papers (i) to (iv) above only and for Category II in Papers (i) to (iii) and (v) above only.
Part II : Interview for Personality Test – 200 Marks
The standard of the paper in General English will be such as may be expected of a Science graduate. The papers on geological subjects will be approximately of the M.Sc. Degree standard of an Indian University and questions will generally be set to test the candidate’s grasp of the fundamentals in each subject.
There will be no practical examination in any of the subjects. The Geologists’s Syllabus shall comprise the following papers.
(1) General English
Candidate will be required to write a short Essay in English.
Other questions will be designed to test their under-standing of English and workmanlike use of words.
(2) Geology – Paper I
Section A : Geomorphology and Remote Sensing.
Section B : Structural Geology
Section C : Geotectonics
Section D: Stratigraphy
Section E : Palaeontology
(3) Geology – Paper II
Section A : Mineralogy
Section B : Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
Section C : Sedimentology
Section D : Geochemistry
Section E : Environmental Geology
(4) Geology – Paper III
Section A : Indian mineral deposits and mineral economics
Section B : Ore genesis
Section C : Mineral exploration
Section D : Geology of fuels
Section E : Engineering geology
Section A: Origin, occurrence and distribution of water.
Section B : Well hydraulies and well design
Section C : Groundwater chemistry
Section D : Groundwater exploration
Section E : Groundwater problems and management.
